South Charlotte Condo Fire Ruled Arson

Charlotte
NC – A fire that ripped through a south Charlotte Condominium and injured two
was ruled arson by Fire Investigators.
Shortly
before 1 p.m. on Monday May 14th, Charlotte Fire Department
Communications began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a structure fire at 11021 Harrowfield Road. Firefighters from nearby Station24 arrived quickly and reported heavy fire conditions involving a large 2-story
fourplex. Because of the volume and intensity of the flames, the incident
commander immediately beckoned additional crews to assist them with the ensuing
firefight.
Teams
sprinted into action deploying hoselines and throwing ground ladders in an
attempt to stop the forward progress of the raging blaze. By now, the
well-entrenched flames had destroyed two units and was threatening to consume
the remaining two. A well-coordinated fire attack by (39) Firefighters resulted
in the knockdown of the blaze and the incident being brought under control in
21 minutes. An occupant of the fire apartment as well as a firefighter
sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to medical facility
for evaluation. Both were treated and later released.
Fire
Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and caused an estimated
$500,000 in damage. Two units were destroyed and two others were affected.
Warrants have been issued for the arrest of Elizabeth Kummer an occupant of one of
the units that were destroyed. It was unclear just how many occupants were
displaced.
Eternally committed to
duty and service,
