Location
A large pond located behind a subdivision of homes just off of Statesville Road.
Incident Synopsis
Members from CFD, CMPD, and Medic were dispatched just after 1:00 pm today to a reported possible drowning at a pond behind homes in the 2600 block of Cochrane Drive. The first arriving CFD units quickly made their way into the frigid waters wearing their Personal Flotation Devices (PDF’s). The FF’s using long poles performed a hasty search in the pond in water depths reaching up to 6 feet. Additional resources from the CFD Dive team arrived and at various times of the operation up to four (4) divers searched an area nearly the size of a football field trying to locate the missing youth. Just before 4:00 pm the 15-year old was located approximately 60 feet from the shore and promptly taken to bank of the pond where Medic’s, along with their Advance Life Equipment began resuscitation efforts. The young man was quickly taken to Carolina Medical Center for further treatment. Chaplin services from CMPD were on site to support the needs of the family who were also taken on to the hospital.
