Incident Synopsis
Just before 10 am Sunday morning FF’s were called to service for a report of a brush fire @ the Bennington Woods Condominiums in South Charlotte. First arriving FF’s from nearby Station #16 reported a small brush fire and initiated a fire attack. While engaged in the suppression of this brush fire FF’s noticed smoke & fire conditions visible in a dormer/ attic area and declared a working fire. Because of the type construction of this structure and the extent of the fire conditions, the Incident Commander requested a 2nd alarm assignment which brought additional resources to the scene. Fifty-four FF’s were summoned to the scene of this blaze which was controlled in about 30 minutes. The cause of the blaze has been determined to be a pre-fabricated chimney and caused damages estimated at $50K. This is the second multi-alarm fire in the past twenty-four hours involving a pre-fabricated fireplace. There were no injuries to report, but the Red Cross was called to assist four residents who were displaced as a result of this blaze.
