Incident Synopsis
Shortly after 8:00 Saturday evening FF’s were called to service for a report of a chimney fire @ the Chimney Apartments in East Charlotte. First arriving FF’s from nearby Station #3 reported smoke & fire visible and declared a working fire. As conditions deteriorated the Incident Commander Battalion IV requested additional resources which brought a 2nd alarm assignment to the scene. It took forty-nine FF’s just under 20 minutes to control this blaze which was confined to the apartment where the fire began. The cause of blaze has been determined to be the improper use of a pre-fabricated chimney and caused extensive damage estimated at $100K. There were no injuries to report, but the Red Cross was called to assist five residents who were displaced as a result of this blaze.
