Incident Synopsis
Shortly before noon Monday morning, FF’s were called to 316 N Hoskins Rd for a reported house fire. FF’s arrived to find heavy smoke & fire coming from the rear and roof area of this one-story ranch home and declared a working fire. A resident had disrobed and discarded a bath robe on the rear porch after it had caught fire while she was attempting to clean a stove. Unknowing that her robe had started a fire on the rear porch of their home, a 12 y/o boy passing by their home alerted the resident and her family of the fire and they were able to self-evacuate the home. The daughter of the elderly resident was quoted as saying “that little boy saved our lives”. The elderly resident was treated for minor burns and transported to a nearby medical facility with non-life threatening injuries. The fire caused an estimated $30 - $35K in monetary damages and displaced a family of six. The Red Cross was requested to assist the family with procuring temporary shelter.
