A space heater placed too close to combustibles in a bedroom was the cause of this fire; Less than $5K in damages

Two teenagers who attempted to put the fire out were treated and transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation (non-life threatening injuries).

Incident Synopsis
Around 9 am Monday morning Charlotte FF’s were called to service for a report of smoke coming out of a home @ 806 Polk Street in North Charlotte. FF’s arrived to find smoke pouring out of this single family home. It took FF’s only a few minutes to put this blaze out, but the damage was significant enough to displace a family of four. Preliminary damage estimates were set at less than $5K. The fire began in a bedroom and was caused by a space heater which was placed to close to combustible materials. Two teenage occupants were treated and transported to an area hospital for minor smoke inhalation. The Red Cross was requested to assist them with procuring temporary housing.
