Incident Synopsis
Just before 5:30 pm Thursday evening, the Charlotte Firefighters were called to service for reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a fuel tanker truck @ the intersection of Old Mt Holly Rd & Craig Street. First FF’s on scene confirmed a tanker truck had collided and came to rest on its side. FF’s were able to quickly treat the truck driver who had escaped the damaged vehicle on his own. He declined transport to a hospital and was cooperating with CMPD officers Thursday evening to determine the cause of this incident. By 7:00 pm, the CFD Hazmat team began the off- loading process of removing fuel from the damaged tanker to another tanker that was brought to the scene. No injuries were reported and by 11:00 pm CFD operations were complete. Officials estimated less than 100 gallons of gasoline leaked from the damaged tanker and Environment Protection Agency (EPA) officials described the damage to the environment as minimal.
